Convert SLDPRT to another file type
To convert SLDPRT part files to another format, you need SolidWorks or other Cad software.
Convert a file to SLDPRT
To convert other file formats to the "3D Part Model" file type, you need software like SolidWorks or a similar tool.
About SLDPRT files
The .SLDPRT file is a proprietary 3D part model created by SolidWorks, a leading computer-aided design (CAD) software. Engineers and designers use these files to store a single 3D object, complete with its exact geometry, material properties, and parametric feature history. They serve as the individual building blocks for larger 3D assemblies (SLDASM) and 2D technical drawings (SLDDRW). You can read more about the software's history on the SolidWorks Wikipedia page.
The main problem with the .SLDPRT format is its severe proprietary lock-in. You typically need a costly software subscription to open, view, or edit these files natively. Additionally, the format suffers from strict backward compatibility issues - an older version of the software cannot open a .SLDPRT file saved in a newer release. These files are often massive, require heavy computing power, and cannot be viewed in standard web browsers. This makes them incredibly frustrating to share with clients, managers, or manufacturing partners who do not have a CAD workstation.
To solve these problems, you must convert the file. For cross-platform editing and safe long-term archiving, convert to STEP (or STP). If you need to manufacture the part via 3D printing, convert to a mesh format like STL or 3MF. For web viewing and AR applications, convert to GLTF or OBJ. Note that converting away from the native format will usually "dumb down" the model, stripping away the parametric feature tree and leaving only the static solid body or mesh.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SLDPRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SLDPRT file to STEP, STL, DWG, PDF, OBJ, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM or IGES, you can use SolidWorks or similar software from the "3D Mechanical Part Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART, DXF or X_T files to SLDPRT, try SolidWorks or another comparable tool in the "3D Mechanical Part Design" category.
The SLDPRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SLDPRT converter.
