About IPT files
An .ipt file is the native proprietary format for saving a single 3D part in Autodesk Inventor. It contains the specific geometry, features, and material data for one component of a mechanical design. While powerful for parametric modeling, .ipt files create significant barriers for collaboration. They are strictly locked into the Autodesk ecosystem, meaning you cannot open them in Blender, FreeCAD, or typical image viewers without specialized (and often expensive) software. Furthermore, 3D printers cannot read .ipt files directly. To make these files usable for manufacturing, visualization, or sharing with clients who don't own Inventor, conversion is essential. For 3D printing, convert your part to STL or 3MF. For using the model in web applications, game engines, or AR/VR, convert to OBJ or GLB.
