The team behind Convert.Guru has over 25 years of experience in analyzing and processing file formats of all kinds. We operate one of the world's most extensive and advanced databases on file formats and process thousands of files in various formats every day.

Our Story

The history of Convert.Guru began in the late 1990s in California when Tom Simondi published one of the first and most comprehensive file format databases on his website. Tom had already worked on mainframe systems at the Air Force Institute of Technology in the 1970s and contributed to the Space Shuttle program at the Space Division in Los Angeles. He is considered one of the most respected programmers of the late 1980s.

When Microsoft referred exclusively to Tom’s database in Windows XP, our database became the leading platform for file format analysis. When users attempted to open an unknown file, XP directed them to Tom’s comprehensive file format research database.

A large, global community continuously updates and expands the database. Together with file analysis companies and industry experts, Filext—our file format database—has become one of the largest and most reputable online platforms for analyzing and working with file types and formats.

Since 2018, we have been developing our file conversion platform in Germany, ensuring compliance with the country's strict data protection laws. We use cutting-edge technology to analyze, process, and convert one of the world's largest collections of file formats. Our goal is to create the best online file converter by continuously enhancing quality, usability, and reliability.

Social Responsibility

We are committed to supporting young talent through our collaboration with Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, one of Germany’s oldest universities: As a jury member of the "echt machen" initiative and the initiator and main sponsor of the Coding Contest, we actively promote skill development and empower young people to bring their own ideas to life. Additionally, we support youth programs for the Halle Falken university American football team and contribute to the establishment of a municipal youth sports hall.
