About X_T files
The .X_T file is a Parasolid Model Part file, the standard ASCII text format for the Parasolid geometric modeling kernel. It serves as the high-precision language used to exchange 3D data between major engineering platforms like Siemens NX, SolidWorks, and Onshape.
While .X_T files are the gold standard for maintaining exact geometry during transfer, they present significant hurdles for downstream users. The format is proprietary to Siemens, meaning you cannot open it without expensive CAD software or specialized viewers. Furthermore, because it uses Boundary Representation (B-Rep) to define shapes mathematically, it is incompatible with 3D printers, web browsers, and game engines, which require polygon meshes. Files can also become incredibly large and slow to parse compared to their binary counterpart (X_B).
To make this data usable, conversion is often the only solution. For 3D printing, convert .X_T to STL to generate the necessary mesh. For web viewing or AR/VR applications, convert to GLB or OBJ. If you need to edit the geometry in non-Parasolid software (like AutoCAD or Blender), the ISO-standard STEP format is the most reliable target for maintaining editability.
Convert.Guru analyzes your X_T file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert X_T file to STEP, STL, PDF, DWG, STP, OBJ, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP or 3DM, you can use Siemens NX or similar software from the "3D CAD Data Exchange" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to X_T, try Siemens NX or another comparable tool in the "3D CAD Data Exchange" category.
The X_T Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our X_T converter.
