About SLDDRT files
A .SLDDRT file is a proprietary SolidWorks Sheet Format used to define the visual layout, title block, borders, and anchors of an engineering drawing. Unlike a standard drawing (BOLD.SLDDRW_BOLD_) which contains views of 3D models, the .SLDDRT file serves strictly as the "background layer" or template definition. This format is heavily used in engineering departments to ensure standardization across technical documentation.
Users commonly encounter problems with .SLDDRT files because they are version-locked; a file saved in SolidWorks 2024 cannot be opened in the 2020 version. Furthermore, because it is a binary Microsoft Compound File format, it cannot be edited or viewed in standard vector tools like Adobe Illustrator or free CAD viewers without conversion. Users often need to convert these files to PDF to visually verify the title block fields, or to DXF/DWG to migrate the border geometry into AutoCAD or other 2D CAD systems. Without conversion, the file is essentially a "black box" to anyone without a $4,000+ SolidWorks license.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SLDDRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SLDDRT file to DWG, SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA or XFL, you can use SolidWorks or similar software from the "Engineering Drawing Layout" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to SLDDRT, try SolidWorks or another comparable tool in the "Engineering Drawing Layout" category.
The SLDDRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SLDDRT converter.
