About MBS files
An .mbs file is primarily an Opera Mailbox file, created by the legacy Opera Mail client to store email folders, messages, and attachments. While technically a variant of the standard MBOX format, .mbs files act as data silos because the Opera Mail client has been discontinued. This creates a significant accessibility problem: modern clients like Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail do not natively open these files, leaving users with archived emails they cannot easily search or view. To recover this data, the most effective solution is converting the .mbs file to EML (for handling individual messages), standard MBOX (for Mozilla Thunderbird), or PST (for Outlook migration). In rare development contexts, an .mbs file may be a Mobile Build Session archive generated by Microsoft Visual Studio, which is a standard ZIP container holding debugging logs.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MBS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MBS file to GBS, KBS, BYTES, PDF, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW or PART, you can use Opera Mail or similar software from the "Email Archive Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to MBS, try Opera Mail or another comparable tool in the "Email Archive Storage" category.
The MBS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MBS converter.
