Convert a file to SCN
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Image & Scene" file type, you need software like Bio-Rad Image Lab or a similar tool.
About SCN files
The .SCN extension represents several completely different formats. Most commonly, it is an Image Lab Image File created by Bio-Rad Image Lab software to store scientific gel and blot images. It is also widely used as a Game Scene File in engines like Godot or as scenario files for games like Age of Empires and OpenTTD. Additionally, Apple uses it for SceneKit 3D scenes, and Leica Microsystems uses it for whole slide microscope images. Because .SCN files are highly proprietary, sharing them is a massive headache. Bio-Rad gel images cannot be opened in standard photo viewers without the original lab software. Leica microscope slides are often enormous (gigabytes in size) and require specialized clinical viewers. Game scenario files are raw data arrays completely useless outside their specific engine. To share scientific results or view images natively, conversion is required. For print and publishing, convert Bio-Rad or Leica .SCN to TIFF. For web sharing and presentations, convert to PNG or JPG. Be aware that converting high-dynamic-range scientific formats to standard 8-bit web formats may clip contrast or discard metadata. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The SCN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCN converter.
