To convert other file formats to the "Video Project File" file type, you need software like CyberLink PowerDirector or a similar tool.
About PDS files
A .PDS file is most commonly a video editing project created by CyberLink PowerDirector or a CAD pattern design file used by Optitex. It can also appear as a well log data file from Schlumberger, an Amazon Kindle e-book metadata file, or a page layout from Broderbund's The Print Shop.
The biggest frustration with .PDS files is that users frequently mistake them for actual media. A PowerDirector project file does not contain any video, audio, or images. It is merely a proprietary XML, JSON, or UTF-16 text file that stores a timeline and file paths pointing to the media on your hard drive. If you email a .PDS file to a colleague without the raw media, they will see a "Media Offline" error. Similarly, Optitex CAD files are proprietary and locked to specific software ecosystems, making them difficult to share with manufacturers using AutoCAD or Gerber.
To share these files effectively, you must convert or export them. For video, you must open the project in PowerDirector and render it to MP4 or MKV for web playback and archiving. For CAD patterns, export the file from Optitex to a universal DXF or .AAMA format to preserve vector measurements. For Print Shop layouts, printing to PDF is the only reliable archiving method. The PDS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PDS converter.
