About MBP1 files
The .MBP1 file is a proprietary sidecar data file created by Amazon Kindle software, such as Kindle for PC and Kindle for Mac. It stores user-generated reading data, including bookmarks, highlights, text annotations, and the last read page position. It functions as an auxiliary file that sits in the same directory as the main e-book.
Users frequently encounter frustration with .MBP1 files because they mistake them for the actual e-book. The most significant limitation of the .MBP1 format is that it does not contain the book's text, cover, or formatting. It only holds a few kilobytes of metadata. Furthermore, it is a closed, proprietary binary format tied directly to an individual user's Amazon account. If you attempt to open an .MBP1 file in a standard text editor, you will only see unreadable characters.
Because it lacks actual book content, you cannot convert an .MBP1 file into a PDF, EPUB, or MOBI book. If you want to convert the book, you must locate the matching AZW, AZW3, or MOBI file instead. The only practical conversion targets for an .MBP1 file are plain text formats like TXT or JSON, and only if you intend to extract your personal notes and highlights.
Standard online converters fail to process this format because they try to extract document text that does not exist. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing your extracted annotations or converting the metadata may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MBP1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
