About SDR files
The .SDR file extension represents two distinct but widespread formats: proprietary vector diagrams created by SmartDraw and electronic field books generated by Sokkia surveying instruments.
1. SmartDraw Drawing (Dominant): These files contain flowcharts, floor plans, and organizational charts. The primary disadvantage is proprietary lock-in; opening an .SDR file usually requires a paid subscription to SmartDraw, and older desktop versions may not be compatible with the modern web-based viewer. This makes collaboration difficult if the recipient does not own the software. To ensure accessibility, users should convert these drawings to PDF for universal viewing, VSDX for editing in Microsoft Visio, or SVG for scalable web use.
2. Sokkia Survey Data: In the geospatial industry, .SDR files store raw coordinate data and observations from total stations. These are often binary or specialized ASCII formats that cannot be opened directly in standard spreadsheet tools. Engineers and surveyors typically need to convert these logs into CSV or XLSX for data processing in Microsoft Excel, or into DXF for import into CAD platforms like AutoCAD.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SDR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted SDT, CDR, PDF, SRD, JPG, TXT, PNG, CRDOWNLOAD, YJF, SWRD, AZW3F, SPV and ENC files.
The SDR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SDR converter.
