About PDT files
The .pdt file extension is highly fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes. Its most common applications are Kobo e-book metadata files used by Kobo e-readers, and Apparel CAD pattern data files authored in Toray ACS CREACOMPO. Beyond these, the extension is also used for XPS spectroscopy data, Trimble Penmap survey projects, and SCIEX Analyst chromatography data.
These proprietary files present significant disadvantages for average users. A CAD .pdt file often requires an expensive, specialized software license to open, locking your pattern designs inside a closed ecosystem. Kobo metadata files are strictly internal tracking files that do not contain actual book text, meaning they are useless outside of the device's native environment.
If you are dealing with a CAD pattern .pdt file, the ideal conversion targets are DXF for vector editing or PDF for simple viewing. However, standard online converters routinely fail to process .pdt files because they lack the specific codecs needed to parse proprietary binary data or encrypted metadata.
Because this file format is so difficult to open or convert, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our engine will inspect the internal hex structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as Microsoft Compound or UTF-8 text strings - viewing or data extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PDT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PDT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PDT converter.
