About SGN files
The .SGN extension primarily identifies an Electronic Digital Signature file, widely used for authenticating documents in government and enterprise workflows, particularly within ecosystems like SKB Kontur, Tensor, and CryptoPro CSP. These files function similarly to P7S or SIG formats, containing cryptographic hashes to verify the integrity and authorship of an associated document (e.g., a contract or tax report). A secondary, distinct use of the format is for vector graphic projects created in sign-making software like SignBlazer or legacy versions of The Print Shop.
The main challenge users face with .SGN files is their unreadable nature. As digital signatures, they are often binary blocks or Base64 encoded strings that appear as gibberish in text editors. Users frequently confuse a detached signature file (which contains no human-readable content) with the document itself, leading to frustration when "conversion" yields no text. Furthermore, SignBlazer files are tied to niche plotter software, making them inaccessible to standard design tools like Adobe Illustrator.
For digital signatures, the best approach is not standard conversion but verification or extraction. If the file is an enveloped container, use specialized tools to extract the inner content to PDF or XML for archiving. If it is a SignBlazer design, convert the vector paths to EPS or SVG for professional editing, or JPG for easy web viewing.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SGN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted XML, ZIP, SIG, PDF, CDW, UDF, SNG, XSB, P7S, PLAN, JPG, PKPASS and ENC files.
The SGN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SGN converter.
