About XSB files

The .XSB file format is primarily known as an XACT Sound Bank file created by Microsoft XNA Game Studio or the Microsoft XACT audio engine. These files store audio cues, volume logic, pitch metadata, and playback instructions for video games on Xbox and Windows. Secondly, .XSB files are frequently used as an XML Schema Binary compiled by Apache XMLBeans for Java applications, or occasionally as a CAD reinforcement schedule backup file generated by Nemetschek Allplan.

The primary disadvantage of an .XSB sound bank is that it is a proprietary, closed format tied to an obsolete Microsoft development ecosystem. You cannot open an .XSB file in standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player. Furthermore, the .XSB file rarely contains the actual sound waves; it acts as a logic controller, while the accompanying XWB (Wave Bank) file holds the compressed audio. For XML users, the compiled binary nature of the Apache schema format makes it completely unreadable in standard text editors without dedicated decompilation.

To make these files useful, extraction and conversion are mandatory. For audio preservation and editing, convert the .XSB cues and its paired XWB audio into universally supported WAV or MP3 files. For developer data, decompile the binary schema back to a standard XML document. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing obsolete software.
