About PMP files

The .pmp extension represents a diverse set of file formats, most commonly associated with Final Fantasy XIV modding and Autodesk AutoCAD configurations.

1. Penumbra Mod Pack (FFXIV)

The majority of .pmp files are compressed archives used by the Penumbra mod loader for Final Fantasy XIV. These files effectively function as containers for game textures, 3D models, and metadata.

The Problem: While highly efficient for the mod loader, these files are proprietary archives that cannot be opened natively by Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Users frequently encounter issues trying to manually inspect mod contents or when attempting to migrate mods to TexTools (.ttmp) format.
The Solution: Since the underlying structure is often ZIP-based, converting .pmp to ZIP allows for immediate extraction and inspection of assets. Users needing to document mod lists can also convert metadata to TXT or JSON.

2. AutoCAD Plot Model Parameter

In professional design workflows using AutoCAD, the .pmp file stores plotter calibration and configuration settings.

The Problem: These are specific system files linked to .PC3 plotter configuration files. They are not human-readable and are tightly locked to the Autodesk ecosystem. Sending a drawing to a print shop without the accompanying .pmp file can result in incorrect margins or scaling errors.
