About FLC files
A .flc file is a legacy FLIC animation format originally developed by Autodesk for Animator Pro and widely used in early DOS and Windows software. Unlike its predecessor (FLI), which was limited to 320x200 resolution, FLC supports variable resolutions and frame rates, utilizing RLE (Run-Length Encoding) delta compression to store only the pixels that change between frames. While efficient for the 1990s, this format is now obsolete and problematic for modern users. It is strictly a 256-color (8-bit) indexed format, meaning it cannot display true color, and it generally lacks audio support. Furthermore, standard media players like QuickTime or Windows Media Player no longer support it natively, often requiring users to install specialized legacy viewers or codecs. To make these animations usable today, the best workflow is to convert them to MP4 for universal playback, GIF for looping web graphics, or WebP for high-efficiency browser display. Convert.guru allows you to preserve these digital artifacts by transforming them into modern standards instantly.

The FLC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FLC converter.
