About PMS files
A .PMS file is a "collision" format, meaning the same extension is used by entirely different, unrelated software. The most common variation (roughly 34% of cases) is an Agricultural Crop Storage file generated by Crop Systems software. These are actually standard ZIP archives disguised with a custom extension to store internal farm data and logs. Another common variation is an encrypted synchronization metadata file used by Freecom Sync Software to manage backup states. Additionally, the extension is used by MSI Afterburner and Microsoft Visual Studio to store real-time hardware performance recordings. The main disadvantage of the .PMS format is this extreme fragmentation. Standard online converters almost always fail because they assume all .PMS files share a single, uniform file structure. For example, a Freecom metadata file requires the original backup software to decrypt, while an MSI performance log is a proprietary binary stream. If you have a Crop Systems .PMS file, the best conversion workaround is to rename the extension to ZIP. You can then extract the internal CSV or TXT files without losing data. Because this format is incredibly difficult to parse, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a disguised ZIP header - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
