About PC3 files
The .PC3 extension primarily identifies an AutoCAD Plotter Configuration file, a proprietary settings format generated by Autodesk AutoCAD. These files store specific driver overrides, media definitions, and color depth settings for printing DWG drawings. A significant limitation for users is that a .PC3 file contains no visual data itself; it acts merely as a set of instructions for a plotter. If you received this file expecting to see a blueprint, you likely need the source DWG or a PDF export instead. Additionally, .PC3 files create dependencies; if the configured plotter is not connected to your system, the file is functionally useless.
Alternatively, in the context of retro computing, a .PC3 file may be a compressed, high-resolution (640x400 monochrome) raster image created by Degas Elite on the Atari ST. These legacy files are completely incompatible with modern image viewers like Adobe Photoshop or web browsers. To access the graphical content trapped in a Degas .PC3 file, you must convert it to a modern standard. For web use, convert to PNG to preserve sharp pixel edges. For archiving retro graphics, TIFF is the recommended lossless target.

The PC3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PC3 converter.
