About Z64 files

A .z64 file is a binary ROM image of a Nintendo 64 video game cartridge, specifically dumped in Big-endian byte order. This format mirrors the native memory structure of the N64 console, making it the preferred format for high-accuracy emulators. However, users frequently encounter compatibility issues because different dumping hardware (like the Mr. Backup Z64) and flashcarts (like EverDrive) require specific byte orderings. A file that works in Project64 might fail to load on hardware or other emulators like Mupen64Plus if the expected format is v64 (Byte-swapped) or n64 (Little-endian). Furthermore, uncompressed .z64 files can be large (up to 64MB), taking up unnecessary space. To ensure universal playability across emulators and flashcarts, users often need to convert .z64 files to v64 via byte-swapping or compress them into zip or 7z archives for storage.

Convert.Guru analyzes your Z64 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted N64, ZIP, V64, ROM, ISO, BPS, WAD, SRM, SFC, RVZ, 7Z, XDELTA and NDS files.
