About BPS files

A .BPS file is primarily a Binary Patching System file, an open-source patch format developed by byuu as a modern replacement for the older IPS format. Modders use these files to distribute fan translations and game modifications legally. Since a .BPS file only contains the binary differences between an original game and a modified version, it does not include copyrighted game code. Another secondary use is for protected audio tracks in the BlackPlayer music app for Android, or as legacy backup documents from Microsoft Works.

To use a .BPS patch, you need specialized patching software like Floating IPS (Flips) or web-based ROM patchers. The primary disadvantage of a .BPS file is that it is completely useless on its own. You cannot open it in a media player or run it in a video game emulator. You must possess the exact original ROM file (such as a SFC or GBA file) to apply the patch. Furthermore, .BPS audio files are restricted by DRM and will fail to play on standard desktop audio players.

Drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser. For video game mods, you must merge the .BPS patch with your base ROM to output a playable game file. For BlackPlayer music files, converting to MP3 or FLAC is required to play the audio on standard software like VLC. If dealing with an old Microsoft Works backup, convert it to DOCX or PDF to read the text on modern operating systems without relying on obsolete software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BPS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, N64, IPS, SFC, BPL, GBA, MP3, Z64, SMC, BSP, ROM, TXT and CIA files.
