Convert a file to XDELTA
To convert other file formats to the "Binary Patch File" file type, you need software like Xdelta or a similar tool.
About XDELTA files
A .XDELTA file is a binary differential patch created by the Xdelta utility. It stores the byte-level differences between an original "source" file and a modified "target" file. This format is widely used in the ROM hacking community to distribute game translations or mods without sharing the copyrighted full game file, as well as by system administrators for efficient bandwidth-saving software updates.
Typical users face significant friction with .XDELTA files because they cannot be opened or viewed directly. They are strictly dependent on having the exact, unmodified source file (matching specific checksums) to function. Furthermore, the native tool is a command-line utility (xdelta3), which is intimidating for non-technical users who simply want to play a modified game. Users often need to "convert" this patch by applying it to their original file to generate the final playable format, such as ISO, BIN, NDS, or GBA. While mostly used for patching, these files can sometimes be converted to other patch formats like IPS or UPS for compatibility with older patching tools or specific emulators.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XDELTA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XDELTA file to NDS, ZIP, ISO, IPS, Z64, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML or INI, you can use Xdelta or similar software from the "Binary Difference Patching" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to XDELTA, try Xdelta or another comparable tool in the "Binary Difference Patching" category.
The XDELTA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XDELTA converter.
