About 7Z files

The .7Z file is an archive format used to compress multiple files and folders into a single file with a very high compression ratio. It is natively managed by 7-Zip, a free, open-source tool developed by Igor Pavlov. You can read more about the underlying architecture on Wikipedia. While .7Z uses highly efficient LZMA and LZMA2 compression algorithms to save disk space, its primary disadvantage is poor out-of-the-box compatibility. Unlike the older ZIP format, which is universally supported by Windows, macOS, and Linux without extra software, opening a .7Z file traditionally requires the recipient to download and install third-party utilities. This creates friction and frustration when sharing archives with non-technical clients, colleagues, or when attempting to extract files on mobile devices. For universal web and email sharing, convert your files to ZIP. If you need to distribute to UNIX/Linux systems, convert to .TAR.GZ.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 7Z file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CISO, ECM, WBFS, ZIP, 3DS, NDS, ISO, TZ, YZ, ROM, ZZ, CHD and CIA files.

The 7Z Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 7Z converter.
