About 7Z files
The .7Z file is an archive format used to compress multiple files and folders into a single file with a very high compression ratio. It is natively managed by 7-Zip, a free, open-source tool developed by Igor Pavlov. You can read more about the underlying architecture on Wikipedia. While .7Z uses highly efficient LZMA and LZMA2 compression algorithms to save disk space, its primary disadvantage is poor out-of-the-box compatibility. Unlike the older ZIP format, which is universally supported by Windows, macOS, and Linux without extra software, opening a .7Z file traditionally requires the recipient to download and install third-party utilities. This creates friction and frustration when sharing archives with non-technical clients, colleagues, or when attempting to extract files on mobile devices. For universal web and email sharing, convert your files to ZIP. If you need to distribute to UNIX/Linux systems, convert to .TAR.GZ.
