Extract text from Parasolid binary files (X_B)

.x_b files are proprietary binary 3D models driven by the Parasolid modeling kernel. Developed by Siemens Digital Industries Software, this format stores high-precision boundary representation (B-rep) solid and surface geometry. Engineers use it to transfer 3D assemblies between Parasolid-based CAD programs like SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and Solid Edge.
Despite its mathematical precision, the .x_b format has severe collaboration limits. It is a strictly proprietary file type, meaning full feature access requires an expensive, licensed CAD subscription. It also has a major technical drawback: it only migrates 3D solids and surfaces, permanently stripping out all 2D data like sketches, lines, and arcs during export. Furthermore, the format lacks support for complex visual attributes, textures, and extensive metadata, making it purely a raw geometry container. Sharing an .x_b file with a client or manufacturer who does not own a compatible application usually results in a frustrating dead end.
To solve this, conversion is the most practical workaround. For universal CAD interoperability across any platform, convert .x_b to STEP (.stp) or IGES (.igs). If you need to send the model to a 3D printer, convert it to a mesh format like STL. For easy web viewing or client review without CAD software, convert to 3D PDF or GLB.
