About JT files
The .JT (Jupiter Tessellation) file is a lightweight 3D data container developed by Siemens Digital Industries Software specifically for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). Unlike heavy native CAD files (like PRT or CATPART) that contain full parametric history, .JT files are optimized for visualization, collaboration, and data exchange, often compressing massive assemblies - like entire aircraft or automotive engines - into manageable sizes.
While .JT is an ISO standard (ISO 14306), it is a common issue for users outside the Siemens ecosystem. The format utilizes complex compression and tessellation schemes that many standard 3D tools (like Blender or Maya) cannot natively import without expensive plugins. Users frequently encounter proprietary attributes or missing Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) when trying to open these files in non-PLM software. To overcome these interoperability barriers, the best solution is conversion. For engineering and manufacturing analysis, convert .JT to STEP or IGES to preserve B-rep geometry. For 3D printing, convert to STL. For web viewing and AR/VR applications, convert to GLB or OBJ.
Convert.Guru analyzes your JT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert JT file to STEP, DXF, DWG, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use JT2Go or similar software from the "3D Product Visualization" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to JT, try JT2Go or another comparable tool in the "3D Product Visualization" category.
The JT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JT converter.
