About USDZ files
A .USDZ file is an uncompressed, encrypted ZIP archive developed by Apple and Pixar to package Universal Scene Description content for Augmented Reality (AR). It functions as a single-file container for 3D meshes, textures, and animations, optimized specifically for AR Quick Look on iOS and macOS devices. While .USDZ is the gold standard for Apple's ecosystem, it can lead to major headaches for cross-platform distribution. Android devices require GLB (glTF) files for AR, and many standard 3D modeling tools on Windows struggle to natively edit or export the zipped format without plugins. To ensure your 3D assets are viewable on the web, Android, and Windows, or to edit them in Blender and Maya, you should convert your .USDZ files to widely supported interchange formats like GLB, FBX, or OBJ.
Convert.Guru analyzes your USDZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert USDZ file to OBJ, STL, FBX, GLB, GLTF, SKP, STEP, DWG, DAE, 3DS, MAX or BLEND, you can use AR Quick Look or similar software from the "Augmented Reality 3D Models" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to USDZ, try AR Quick Look or another comparable tool in the "Augmented Reality 3D Models" category.
The USDZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our USDZ converter.
