About BLEND files
A .blend file is the native, proprietary project container used by Blender, a popular open-source 3D creation suite. It acts as a complete virtual filesystem, storing 3D meshes, textures, bone rigging, animations, lighting setups, and node trees in a single archive. Some .blend files are saved with GZIP compression to reduce storage footprint, while others remain uncompressed binary.
The main disadvantage of a .blend file is its extreme software dependency. Outside of the Blender ecosystem, the format is essentially useless. You cannot natively import a .blend file into game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, nor can you view it in standard web browsers or operating systems. Furthermore, these files suffer from strict version dependency; opening a file saved in Blender 4.0 using Blender 3.6 will frequently break geometry nodes or material shaders. They also easily inflate to gigabytes in size if high-resolution textures are packed internally, making them a nightmare to share.
To make your 3D work accessible, you must convert it. For use in game engines and professional 3D editing pipelines, convert to FBX. For basic cross-platform archiving of static meshes, convert to OBJ. If you need to embed the 3D model on a website or in AR applications, convert to glTF or GLB. For 3D printing, convert the mesh to STL. Drag and drop your .blend file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing heavy software.

If you want to convert BLEND file to STEP, SKP, MP4, DAE or MAX, you can use Blender or similar software from the "3D Scene Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to BLEND, try Blender or another comparable tool in the "3D Scene Storage" category.
The BLEND Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BLEND converter.
