About STG files
STG files are primarily known as Statistica Graph files, created by the advanced analytics suite TIBCO Statistica (formerly StatSoft). These files utilize the Microsoft Compound Document format to store complex statistical visualizations, plots, and chart settings. The main challenge users face is the strict proprietary lock-in; an STG file is not a standard image and cannot be opened by web browsers or generic image viewers like Photoshop. To share these graphs with colleagues who lack a Statistica license, users must convert them to universal formats.
For documentation and reports, the best practice is converting STG to PDF or high-resolution TIFF/PNG images to preserve the visual accuracy of the data model.
A significant secondary use of the .stg extension is in financial trading, specifically as strategy or indicator files for the Nelogica ProfitChart platform and similar tools like Tryd Trader. In this context, the file contains executable logic or settings for automated trading and cannot be "converted" in the traditional sense, but must be imported into the specific trading platform. Additionally, users of the open-source tool ScreenToGif may encounter STG files as temporary project files containing raw screen recording frames before they are exported to GIF or MP4.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert STG file to TL, BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z or RAR, you can use TIBCO Statistica or similar software from the "Statistical Graph Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to STG, try TIBCO Statistica or another comparable tool in the "Statistical Graph Storage" category.
The STG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STG converter.
