About STG files

The .STG file extension serves multiple entirely different purposes: it is predominantly used for saving complex data visualizations in Statistica (a statistical suite owned by TIBCO) or for storing algorithmic trading strategies in financial day-trading platforms like Nelogica ProfitChart. Other software, such as the open-source screen recording tool ScreenToGif and the OBD Fusion automotive diagnostic app, also rely on this highly fragmented extension. The primary disadvantage of the .STG format is its locked, proprietary nature. A Statistica .STG graph uses a complex Microsoft Compound file structure, making it completely unreadable outside of an expensive, enterprise-grade software environment. Similarly, a Nelogica trading script is a closed algorithm designed explicitly to prevent reverse engineering or use in competing platforms like MetaTrader. Users are effectively trapped in the original software's ecosystem, unable to share their files with clients or peers who lack the parent application. If you need to share a Statistica graph, the best workaround is to export the .STG file directly from the native software to a universal format like PDF, PNG, or SVG. For trading strategies, direct conversion is impossible. Standard online converters consistently fail to process .STG files because they don't know if the file contains statistical arrays, a day-trading algorithm, or automotive diagnostics. Because this file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as standard XML or compressed ZIP data), viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your STG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted STL, PCG, PSF, ZIP, PNG, JPG, STP, CTG, TXT, CDW, ONEPKG, TRN and BDB files.

The STG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STG converter.
