About TRN files
The .TRN file extension is most commonly associated with SQL Server Transaction Log Backup files created by Microsoft SQL Server. These files contain a sequential record of all database transactions, allowing administrators to restore a database to a specific millisecond in time. A secondary use for .TRN files is as spoken language transcripts used by audio annotation software like TranscriberAG, or court reporter transcripts created by Stenograph Case CATalyst. The main disadvantage of .TRN files is that they are deeply proprietary and context-dependent. A database .TRN file can easily exceed hundreds of gigabytes and cannot be read by standard text editors; it requires a live SQL Server instance to read or restore. Transcript .TRN files are often locked into legacy or niche software formats, making them difficult to share with clients who just want to read the text. For sharing and archiving transcript files, convert to PDF. For text mining and editing, convert to TXT or CSV. While raw database backups cannot be converted directly to flat files without database extraction, you can still parse them for metadata.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TRN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TRN file to VCD, BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z or RAR, you can use Microsoft SQL Server or similar software from the "Database Transaction Log Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to TRN, try Microsoft SQL Server or another comparable tool in the "Database Transaction Log Backup" category.
The TRN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TRN converter.
