Convert BDB to another file type

To convert BDB Databases to another format, you need Oracle Berkeley DB or other Database software.

Convert a file to BDB

To convert other file formats to the "Embedded Key-Value Database" file type, you need software like Oracle Berkeley DB or a similar tool.

About BDB files

The .BDB file extension primarily represents a Berkeley DB Database file. Originally developed by Sleepycat Software and now maintained by Oracle, Berkeley DB is a high-performance embedded database library. Unlike traditional relational databases, these files store raw key-value pairs without using standard SQL. Alternatively, the .BDB format is frequently used for Microsoft Works Database backups, bridge design models in CSiBridge, and video management system databases like Milestone XProtect.

The main disadvantage of .BDB files is their severe lack of portability. Because they often act as proprietary binary containers or specialized key-value stores, you cannot easily double-click them to view the contents. Reading a Berkeley DB file normally requires specific command-line tools like db_dump or programming language bindings (C, Python, Java). For legacy Microsoft Works databases, the native software has been obsolete for over a decade, trapping your legacy data inside an inaccessible, proprietary format.

To make this data usable today, you must convert the .BDB file to standard text-based formats. For data analysis or importing into modern relational databases, convert your .BDB to CSV or SQL. For web use or developer integration, convert it to JSON or XML. Note that extracting embedded database files will salvage the raw table records, but application-specific UI layouts, macros, and B-tree indexes will be lost. Drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DBD, WDB, TXT, BCM, XLR and UPS files.

FAQ

If you want to convert BDB file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use Oracle Berkeley DB or similar software from the "Embedded Database Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to BDB, try Oracle Berkeley DB or another comparable tool in the "Embedded Database Storage" category.

The BDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BDB converter.
