About SAB files
The .SAB (Standard ACIS Binary) file is primarily a 3D modeling format used to store topology and geometry data. It is the binary equivalent of the text-based SAT format, developed by Spatial Corp (a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes) for the ACIS geometric modeling kernel. Other prominent uses for the .SAB extension include proprietary game audio containers for Square Enix games (using CRI Middleware), game data archives for Saber Interactive, and split asset bundles in the Unity game engine. Handling .SAB files presents significant challenges. As a binary 3D model, it is a proprietary, closed format that requires expensive CAD software licenses like AutoCAD or SolidWorks to open or edit. It cannot be viewed natively in web browsers or standard operating systems. Similarly, game audio .SAB files are highly compressed, proprietary containers lacking standard metadata, making them impossible to play in standard media players. For 3D models, converting .SAB to open or widely supported formats like STEP, IGES, or STL is highly recommended for interoperability, though exact parametric histories might be lost during conversion. For audio files, extracting the container contents to standard WAV or MP3 files is the best approach. Because these files rely heavily on proprietary engines, standard online converters often fail to process them. Even if it is an encrypted game asset or a complex CAD binary, our tool will inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
