Convert SAT to another file type

To convert SAT files to another format, you need Spatial ACIS or other 3D software.

Convert a file to SAT

To convert other file formats to the "ACIS 3D Model File" file type, you need software like Spatial ACIS or a similar tool.

About SAT files

The .SAT file is a Standard ACIS Text file used to store 3D geometry and boundary representation (B-rep) models. Developed by Spatial Corporation, this format allows CAD, CAM, and CAE systems like AutoCAD and SolidWorks to share geometric data across different platforms.

Despite its widespread use in mechanical engineering, the .SAT format has severe practical limitations. Because it is an ASCII text file, complex models generate enormous, bloated file sizes compared to modern binary alternatives like SAB. Furthermore, .SAT files focus strictly on raw mathematical geometry - they strip out textures, materials, and lighting, making them completely useless for visual rendering or web presentation. You cannot open a .SAT file natively in a web browser, and buying a license for ACIS-compatible CAD software is incredibly expensive just to view a simple part.

To work around these limitations, conversion is the most pragmatic solution. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser. For broad interoperability with other CAD systems, convert to STEP or IGES. If you need to 3D print the model, convert it to STL. For web viewers or game engines, convert to OBJ or GLTF. Note that converting from .SAT will preserve geometric accuracy, but you will still need to reapply any visual materials in your target application.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SAT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DWG, STP, STEP, ASAT, STL, ZIP, DVB_ANALOG, DVBC, SLDPRT, SAB, RFA, DXF and IGES files.

FAQ

If you want to convert SAT file to ACT, STEP, IQ, STL, BTC, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP or 3DM, you can use Spatial ACIS or similar software from the "3D Geometry Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to SAT, try Spatial ACIS or another comparable tool in the "3D Geometry Storage" category.

The SAT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SAT converter.
