About PVT files

The .pvt file extension is most commonly associated with the Keepsafe Photo Vault application. Keepsafe uses this format to securely store private photos and videos on mobile devices. Under the hood, a Keepsafe .pvt file is often just a standard ZIP archive that contains encrypted or obfuscated media. Another frequent use case involves the Apple Photos app, where a .pvt file acts as a disguised JPG image for hidden files or components of Apple Live Photos. The format is also occasionally utilized by PTC Creo View for 3D CAD models and by Dynojet for motorcycle engine tuning maps.

The primary disadvantage of the .pvt format is its proprietary and locked nature. Because these files are explicitly designed to restrict access, you cannot natively view them in standard image viewers or media players. This locked environment requires users to maintain the original software - often tied to premium subscriptions - just to access their own data. Furthermore, transferring these files between different operating systems or recovering them after a device failure is notoriously difficult. Standard online converters fail to process them because they lack the decryption keys or specific structural logic of the host application.

When users need to recover or migrate their media, the best target formats are standard JPG for images, MP4 for videos, or ZIP for archive extraction. Converting a .pvt file to these universal formats guarantees long-term accessibility without relying on third-party vault apps. Be aware that extracting media from an encrypted vault might strip proprietary metadata, such as internal app organization tags or custom album structures.

Because .pvt files are typically closed, proprietary formats or encrypted lockboxes (such as those used by the OnePlus File Manager), they are inherently difficult to open or convert directly. Often, only the original software can properly read, decrypt, or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PVT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, HEIC, NPVT, JPEG, PTV, JPG, TXT, OVPN, PVR, PVZ, MP4, SLDPRT and ACSM files.

The PVT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PVT converter.
