About HEIC files

A .HEIC file is a High Efficiency Image Container used primarily by Apple devices to store photos using advanced HEVC (H.265) compression. Introduced as the default format in iOS 11, it allows users to store high-quality images at approximately half the file size of a standard JPG. It supports advanced features like transparency, 16-bit color, and image sequences (used for Apple's Live Photos).

Despite its technical superiority, .HEIC presents significant compatibility challenges. It is not natively supported by most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari on older OS), making it impossible to upload directly to many websites, CMS platforms like WordPress, or social media channels without prior conversion.
