The .PTV file format is highly fragmented, serving primarily as a Photo Slideshow Project file for MemoriesOnTV (formerly VSO Photo to TV) or as a Virtual Tour Archive for the discontinued Kolor Panotour software. A smaller subset of these files function as proprietary CCTV pipe inspection videos recorded by PipeTech Scan software.
Users frequently encounter major roadblocks when trying to open or convert .PTV files. Because the slideshow variant is a proprietary project file, it does not contain actual video data; instead, it stores structural data, transition settings, and file paths pointing to local media. Standard media players and video converters will completely fail to read it. Furthermore, Kolor Panotour was discontinued by GoPro in 2018, leaving users stranded with obsolete software and inaccessible 3D tour archives.
The ideal conversion targets depend heavily on the file's origin. For slideshow projects, rendering the file to MP4 or AVI is required. For Panotour files, extracting the assets to a standard ZIP format is the pragmatic workaround.
