About IPF files
An .IPF file is most commonly an IBAK Panoramo Sewer Inspection Video file or an Interchangeable Preservation File for Amiga disk images. IBAK files store panoramic video feeds and index data from specialized underground pipe inspection rovers based on the RIFF container. Alternatively, the Software Preservation Society (SPS) uses the .IPF format to store bit-for-bit preserved copies of old Commodore Amiga floppy disks. Other uses include game data archives by IMC Games, firewall backups by IPFire, and digital textbook images by Oxford University Press. To open IBAK videos, you need specialized software like the IBAK IKAS viewer. For Amiga disk images, emulators like WinUAE with the SPS plugin are required. Users often need to convert .IPF files because they are highly proprietary and locked to specific ecosystems. IBAK inspection files cannot be opened in standard media players like VLC or uploaded to YouTube. Amiga preservation files require advanced emulation knowledge to extract files. Furthermore, textbook or game .IPF files are often disguised PNG, JPG, or ZIP archives that standard operating systems do not recognize, creating unnecessary workflow bottlenecks. If your .IPF is a game archive or textbook image, it is best to extract or convert it to ZIP, PNG, or JPG for universal access. If it is an Amiga disk, converting it to standard ADF (Amiga Disk File) makes it broadly compatible with more emulators. IBAK videos should ideally be exported to MP4 or AVI, though this typically requires the original software. Standard online converters fail because the .IPF extension is fragmented across over ten completely unrelated formats. Basic converters cannot guess if it is a video, an emulator disk, or a game archive. This format is notoriously difficult to open outside its native environment. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IPF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IPF file to ADF, ST, MP4, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP or IGES, you can use IBAK Panoramo or similar software from the "Sewer Inspection Video" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to IPF, try IBAK Panoramo or another comparable tool in the "Sewer Inspection Video" category.
The IPF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPF converter.
