About IFC files
The .IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) format is an open international standard for Building Information Modeling (BIM) data, created by BuildingSMART. It stores 3D architectural models, spatial relationships, and property data for interoperability between tools like Revit, ArchiCAD, and Tekla. While highly detailed, .IFC files have significant disadvantages. They are often massively bloated in file size, notoriously slow to parse, and require expensive, specialized software with a steep learning curve to open. You cannot view them natively in web browsers or standard operating systems. Furthermore, data fidelity is often lost or misinterpreted when moving an .IFC file between different vendor ecosystems. To overcome these limitations, you must convert the file. For 2D floor plans and standard CAD drafting, convert to DWG or DXF. For general 3D rendering and animation pipelines, convert to OBJ or FBX. For web visualization, GLTF or GLB are the optimal targets. Just drag and drop your file here to convert it instantly on convert.guru without installing heavy BIM software.

If you want to convert IFC file to DWG, STEP, SKP, PDF, DAE, MAX or BLEND, you can use Revit or similar software from the "BIM Data Exchange" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to IFC, try Revit or another comparable tool in the "BIM Data Exchange" category.
The IFC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IFC converter.
