About BIMX files
The .BIMX file is a proprietary Building Information Modeling (BIM) presentation package created by Graphisoft Archicad. It stores interactive Hyper-models containing a 3D building model linked with 2D architectural documentation, designed for clients and contractors to navigate construction projects without CAD software. You can natively open it using the free BIMx Desktop Viewer or mobile app. The main disadvantage of .BIMX is its strict, read-only nature. It is a compiled export format - similar to a 3D PDF - making it highly difficult to edit, modify, or integrate into other 3D pipelines like Blender or Autodesk Revit. The files can also become exceptionally large, often exceeding several gigabytes for complex buildings, making them hard to share via email. To reuse the architectural data, you must convert it. For broad 3D editing and rendering, convert to OBJ, FBX, or DAE. For sharing standardized BIM data, convert to IFC. For extracting 2D floor plans and layouts, convert to PDF or DWG.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BIMX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BIMX file to IFC, DWG, OBJ, PDF, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP or IGES, you can use Graphisoft Archicad or similar software from the "3D Architectural Model Presentation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to BIMX, try Graphisoft Archicad or another comparable tool in the "3D Architectural Model Presentation" category.
The BIMX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BIMX converter.
