Convert BIMX to another file type
To convert your BIMX file to another format, you need Graphisoft BIMx or other Cad software.
Convert a file to BIMX
To convert other file formats to the "Architectural Presentation Model" file type, you need software like Graphisoft BIMx or a similar tool.
About BIMX files
A .BIMx file is a proprietary Hyper-model created by Graphisoft ArchiCAD, designed specifically for the BIMx presentation app. These files are sophisticated containers that merge the 3D building model with 2D architectural documentation (layouts, plans, and sections) into a single, navigable environment. The primary friction users encounter is that .BIMx is a "terminal" format - much like a PDF, it is intended for viewing and client presentation, not for further editing or data exchange.
Because the format is heavily compressed and optimized for mobile performance on iPads and phones, it acts as a "digital lock." You cannot directly import a .BIMx file into Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or SketchUp to modify the geometry. This leaves engineers and contractors stuck with a file they can see but cannot measure or alter. For editing purposes, you must request the source PLN file or a universal IFC export from the original architect. For documentation and archiving, extracting the embedded 2D sheets to PDF or capturing views as JPG/PNG images are the most practical conversion workflows available without the original authoring software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BIMX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BIMX file to IFC, DWG, OBJ, PDF, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP or IGES, you can use Graphisoft BIMx or similar software from the "Architectural Hyper-model Presentation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to BIMX, try Graphisoft BIMx or another comparable tool in the "Architectural Hyper-model Presentation" category.
The BIMX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BIMX converter.
