About ICF files
The .icf file extension has two wildly different, widely used applications: radio cloning settings and proprietary CCTV video recordings.
Most commonly, an .icf file is a hardware configuration file created by Icom or TYT radio programming software. It contains frequency lists, repeater offsets, channel names, and firmware settings. Users clone settings from one radio and save them as an .icf file to quickly program a fleet of other radios. The major disadvantage of this format is that it is strictly proprietary. You cannot open it in a standard spreadsheet or text editor to quickly review your frequencies. To decode it, you need specific cloning software like CHIRP or Icom CS-series applications.
The second common use for an .icf file is as a DVR Video Recording File exported from IC Realtime, Dahua, or similar security camera systems. These DVRs export raw video streams into the .icf format to prevent tampering. However, this creates a massive headache: standard video players like VLC or Windows Media Player refuse to play them. You are forced to install clunky, outdated manufacturer viewers just to review your security footage.
Conversion targets based on intent:
For Radio Settings: Convert .icf to CSV using CHIRP. This allows you to safely edit frequencies in a spreadsheet, or convert it to an IMG file for programming other radio models.
For DVR Video: Convert the .icf security footage to MP4 or AVI so it can be viewed on any device, sent to authorities, or stored in a standard archive.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ICF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ICF file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use Icom Cloning Software or similar software from the "Radio Programming Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to ICF, try Icom Cloning Software or another comparable tool in the "Radio Programming Data Storage" category.
The ICF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ICF converter.
