Convert RVT to another file type
To convert RVT projects to another format, you need Autodesk Revit or other Cad software.
Convert a file to RVT
To convert other file formats to the "BIM Project File" file type, you need software like Autodesk Revit or a similar tool.
About RVT files
An .rvt file is a proprietary Building Information Modeling (BIM) project file created by Autodesk Revit. It stores complete architectural 3D models, structural data, and material metadata in a single database file. You can natively open and edit this file only using Autodesk Revit. The format has significant real-world disadvantages. It is completely proprietary and heavily locks users into the Autodesk ecosystem. Files frequently exceed hundreds of megabytes. Opening or editing an .rvt file requires a software subscription that costs thousands of dollars per year. Additionally, Revit files suffer from strict forward-compatibility limits; older versions of the software simply cannot open files saved in newer versions. If you need to share this data outside of Revit, the best target formats are IFC for cross-platform BIM collaboration, DWG for standard CAD editing in AutoCAD, or PDF for standard visual reviews. Because .RVT is a closed, complex database, standard online converters always fail to process it. Exporting geometry accurately requires the original Revit engine. However, you can still use our platform as a workaround. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting metadata may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RVT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RVT file to DWG, IFC, SKP, PDF, NWD, RFA, FBX, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML or YML, you can use Autodesk Revit or similar software from the "BIM Project Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RVT, try Autodesk Revit or another comparable tool in the "BIM Project Storage" category.
The RVT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RVT converter.
