About RVT files

The .RVT file is the native proprietary project format used by Autodesk Revit for Building Information Modeling (BIM). These files contain a comprehensive database of a building's design, including 3D geometry, floor plans, sections, schedules, and construction metadata. While .RVT is the industry standard for architectural design, it presents significant barriers for collaboration: files are often massive, require an expensive Autodesk subscription to open, and suffer from strict version locking (e.g., a file saved in Revit 2024 cannot be opened in Revit 2023). Sharing these files with clients or consultants who do not use Revit creates friction. To resolve this, users frequently need to convert .RVT files. For archiving and universal viewing, PDF is the standard. For interoperability with other BIM tools like ArchiCAD, converting to IFC is essential. For traditional 2D drafting workflows, exporting to DWG ensures compatibility with AutoCAD.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RVT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RFA, RTE, IFC, ZIP, DWG, BIM, PDF, JPG, RTV, NWC, NWD, SKP and PNG files.

The RVT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RVT converter.
