About G files
The .g file extension is a notorious source of confusion because it is highly fragmented. It is primarily used as a game resource archive for engines like Godot or Gideros, a geometry database for BRL-CAD, an ANTLR grammar definition file, or a proprietary G-code format for FlashForge 3D printers. This fragmentation is a major disadvantage: double-clicking a .g file usually results in an error because the operating system cannot know which program created it. If the file is a BRL-CAD database, it uses a complex, proprietary binary structure that standard CAD software like AutoCAD cannot import directly. If it is a FlashForge machine file, it contains hardware-specific toolpaths that will ruin prints on other brands. To make these files usable elsewhere, conversion is mandatory. BRL-CAD geometry should be converted to universal STL or OBJ meshes. Game archives can sometimes be unpacked to ZIP files to extract raw assets. ANTLR files are plain text but should be saved as TXT to guarantee readability. Standard online converters fail instantly with .g files because they rely solely on the extension rather than internal data. Our engine analyzes the binary signature to determine if it is a 3D model, raw text, or a compressed archive, offering the best possible conversion route.
Convert.Guru analyzes your G file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert G file to MG, L, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES or SAT, you can use BRL-CAD or similar software from the "Fragmented Data and Geometry" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to G, try BRL-CAD or another comparable tool in the "Fragmented Data and Geometry" category.
The G Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our G converter.
