Extract text from Photogrammetry projects (MG)
To convert MG Projects to another format, you need AliceVision Meshroom or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "Photogrammetry Workflow Document" file type, you need software like AliceVision Meshroom or a similar tool.
A .mg file usually functions as a Photogrammetry project file used by AliceVision Meshroom. It stores project nodes, workflow settings, and file path references needed to generate 3D models from photographs. Internally, standard Meshroom files use standard JSON formatting. Alternatively, some software uses .mg for visual novel game scripts (such as the 07th Expansion Higurashi series running on the KiriKiri engine), renamed PNG game assets, or ZIP-compressed note-taking documents.
The main disadvantage of the Meshroom .mg format is that it does not contain the actual 3D mesh or image data; it only holds the project workflow graph. If you share just the .mg file, the recipient cannot view the 3D model. Game scripts and proprietary data files are also strictly closed and unreadable outside their specific game engine. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they cannot compute complex photogrammetry nodes or decipher proprietary game logic.
Since Meshroom files are structurally JSON, you can convert or rename them to JSON or TXT to edit the workflow parameters in a basic text editor. For the actual 3D output, you must export the result as an OBJ directly from Meshroom. This file format is inherently difficult to convert because only the original software can properly process the referenced data. Our engine can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like a JSON structure or a compressed graphic asset, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
