About CXF files
The .cxf extension is most frequently associated with the Color Exchange Format, an XML-based industry standard (ISO 17972) used to communicate spectral color data between software and devices. Professionals in graphic design and printing use CxF files to ensure brand colors remain consistent across different substrates and inks, utilizing software like X-Rite Color iQC or CGS ORIS. However, because a CxF file contains raw spectral data rather than a visual image, it cannot be opened by standard image viewers or web browsers. This creates friction when you need to share color specifications with clients who lack specialized software. For this purpose, converting CxF to PDF creates a universally viewable report of the color data. Additionally, the .cxf extension is widely used for Italian Cadastral Maps (Mappa Catastale), a format used by the Agenzia delle Entrate for land registry data. These files are notoriously difficult to open outside of government-issued software like Pregeo. Architects and engineers often need to convert these Cadastral CXF files to DXF or DWG to edit the geometry in AutoCAD or to PDF for documentation. A third use case involves Quansheng amateur radios, where CXF files store channel configurations; converting these to CSV or XML allows for easier editing of frequency lists.

The CXF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CXF converter.
