About FRF files

The .frf file extension primarily represents a FastReport Report Definition File. These files store the visual layout, data bands, variables, and formatting structures used by FastReport, a popular reporting framework for software developers. The .frf format is also used for entirely different purposes, such as Volkswagen Group (VAG) Automotive ECU firmware files, ABBYY FineReader OCR project files, and FLIR thermal imaging reports.

The primary disadvantage of an .frf file is its heavily proprietary nature. Because it relies on closed structural rules, you cannot open a FastReport template directly in standard word processors or web browsers. Furthermore, VAG firmware and FLIR reports require highly specialized, expensive software to interpret. This vendor lock-in traps your data inside closed ecosystems and makes sharing impossible without the original host program.

Most users need to convert .frf files to standard formats like PDF, DOCX, or CSV to share the final reports with clients or colleagues. Unfortunately, standard online converters usually fail because the internal data depends on the original application's rendering engine to populate and draw the document. Often, only the original software can properly read, compile, or export the data.

Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, generic tools will give you an error. We can inspect the internal hexadecimal structure of the file to tell you exactly which type of .frf you have. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the standard ZIP compression used by FLIR thermal reports - viewing the internal images or extracting the embedded data may still be entirely possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FRF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SGO, ODX, FRP, ZIP, PDF, FRD, FR3, BIN, FRT, TXT, EDOC, JPG and FDB files.

The FRF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FRF converter.
