About FRF files

FRF files primarily serve as report templates or containers generated by FastReport, a widely used reporting engine for .NET, VCL, and FMX frameworks. These files store the layout, data connections, and scripting required to generate business reports, but they are not standalone documents. A major limitation is that .FRF files cannot be opened by standard office suites like Microsoft Word or web browsers; they require the specific hosting application or the FastReport Viewer to render the final output. Consequently, sharing these files is impractical for end-users who lack the source software.

To make the data accessible for meetings, archiving, or editing, users typically convert these report definitions into universal formats. For viewing and distribution, converting to PDF is the standard for preserving layout fidelity. For further data manipulation, converting to Excel (.XLSX) or CSV allows analysts to work with the raw figures.

Less commonly, the .FRF extension indicates an ABBYY FineReader OCR project file. These proprietary containers hold scanned images and recognized text data before final export. Users restricted by this format need to process the file within ABBYY to export usable documents like DOCX or searchable PDFs. Additionally, in the automotive sector, .FRF refers to Volkswagen Flash Container files used for ECU firmware updates, which are strictly binary system files and not suitable for document conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FRF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SGO, ODX, FRP, ZIP, PDF, FRD, FR3, BIN, FRT, TXT, EDOC, JPG and FDB files.

The FRF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FRF converter.
