Convert FDB to another file type
To convert FDB Databases to another format, you need Firebird RDBMS or other Database software.
Convert a file to FDB
To convert other file formats to the "Relational Database" file type, you need software like Firebird RDBMS or a similar tool.
About FDB files
The .FDB file extension primarily denotes a Firebird Database File, created by the open-source Firebird RDBMS. These files store relational database tables, views, procedures, and triggers. In engineering, structural professionals encounter .FDB files as SAFE Foundation Slab Models created by CSI SAFE. Additionally, genealogists use this extension for Legacy Family Tree databases, which often utilize a Microsoft Jet Database Engine or SQLite format under the hood.
Working with .FDB files is notoriously rigid. Firebird files are proprietary database containers that require a running database server and specific administration tools like FlameRobin to view the data; they cannot be opened directly in standard spreadsheet software. CSI SAFE files require expensive, proprietary engineering licenses, making collaboration with non-engineers difficult. Legacy Family Tree databases lock your family history into specific Windows-only software, frustrating users on modern web or Mac platforms.
Conversion is the best way to make this data accessible and future-proof. For Firebird databases, convert the tables to CSV or SQL dumps for easy import into Excel, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. For Legacy Family Tree files, extracting data to GEDCOM (GED) ensures your genealogy data survives outside of proprietary tools. For CSI SAFE models, exporting to PDF or DXF allows clients to review slab designs without an expensive software license.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FDB file to PDF, SQL, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use Firebird RDBMS or similar software from the "Relational Database Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to FDB, try Firebird RDBMS or another comparable tool in the "Relational Database Storage" category.
The FDB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FDB converter.
