About ODX files
The .odx file extension primarily represents an Open Diagnostic Data Exchange format. Designed under the ASAM standard, it is used by automotive manufacturers and suppliers to exchange diagnostic data, ECU (Electronic Control Unit) configurations, and testing parameters. The data is stored in an XML structure. A smaller percentage of .odx files function as Orchestration files for Microsoft BizTalk Server or condition monitoring data from PRÜFTECHNIK OMNITREND.
While based on standard XML, the internal schema of an automotive .odx file is highly complex. The major disadvantage is its strict tie to the proprietary automotive diagnostic ecosystem. Files are often impossible to interpret without expensive, specialized engineering licenses for tools like Softing ODX Studio. Users without this software cannot easily read the parameters, process vehicle diagnostics, or share the data with non-engineers.
If you need to analyze the data without an expensive license, the best conversion targets are standard XML, CSV, or TXT. Extracting the text to these formats removes the proprietary container but preserves the raw values for manual analysis.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert. Standard online converters fail because an .odx file is an industry-specific data container, not a standard document. Often, only the original engineering software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ODX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ODX file to PDX, CDD, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use Softing ODX Studio or similar software from the "Automotive Diagnostic Data Exchange" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ODX, try Softing ODX Studio or another comparable tool in the "Automotive Diagnostic Data Exchange" category.
The ODX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ODX converter.
