To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Survey Data Format" file type, you need software like Leica Geosystems Format Manager or a similar tool.
About FRT files
The .FRT file extension primarily represents a Survey Data Format file utilized by Leica Geosystems Format Manager. It stores specialized topological measurements, geographical coordinates, and device configuration data gathered by professional surveying hardware. Alternately, the extension is used as a legacy FoxPro Report Memo created by Microsoft Visual FoxPro to hold report formatting variables, or as an ADLForms Template deployed by ADL Software.
The main disadvantage of an .FRT file is its strictly proprietary, closed-source nature. Leica survey datasets are locked to the manufacturer's ecosystem. Without an active license for Leica's proprietary tools, the files are effectively inaccessible because standard web browsers, text editors, and generic spreadsheet tools cannot parse the data natively. Furthermore, Microsoft FoxPro is a discontinued product. Setting up a working legacy environment just to extract a 20-year-old .FRT database report is a significant and frustrating hurdle for modern developers and archivists.
Users typically need to convert Leica survey data to CSV or TXT for raw data analysis in Excel, or DXF for use in engineering CAD programs. Legacy FoxPro memos are generally migrated to PDF or TXT. However, this file format is incredibly difficult to open or convert externally. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FRT file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use Leica Geosystems Format Manager or similar software from the "Survey Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to FRT, try Leica Geosystems Format Manager or another comparable tool in the "Survey Data Storage" category.
The FRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FRT converter.
