About EVO files
The .EVO extension primarily refers to project files created by DIALux evo, the industry standard for lighting design calculation. These files contain complex 3D geometries, luminaire data, textures, and calculation results stored in a compressed ZIP container.
While .EVO files are essential for lighting designers, they pose significant challenges for collaboration. The format is strictly proprietary to the DIALux ecosystem, meaning clients, architects, and contractors cannot view the design without installing the heavy desktop software. Sharing raw .EVO files often leads to version conflicts or "missing plugin" errors. To streamline approval workflows, professionals should convert these designs into universally accessible formats. For documentation and client presentation, converting to PDF provides a locked, viewable report. For architectural integration, exporting to DWG or DXF allows seamless import into AutoCAD. For BIM workflows, converting to IFC ensures compatibility with Revit.
A secondary, legacy use of the .EVO extension is for HD DVD video files (Enhanced Video Object). This obsolete format, similar to VOB on standard DVDs, contains high-definition video and audio streams encoded with codecs like H.264 or VC-1. Since the HD DVD format lost the format war to Blu-ray, modern media players and smart TVs rarely support playback. To rescue this footage, users must convert these files to MP4 or MKV using video transcoding tools.

To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to EVO, try DIALux or another comparable tool in the "Lighting Design Project" category.
The EVO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EVO converter.
