Extract text from cutting files (CEI)

The .CEI extension serves two very different, highly specialized industrial sectors, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them.
The most common use (approx. 63%) is within the apparel and signage manufacturing industries, utilized by software from Lectra and Gerber Technology. These files contain vector path data and machine instructions for automated flatbed cutters.
The Problem: These are proprietary, binary files designed solely for communication between specific design software (like Lectra Modaris or Gerber Omega) and the cutting hardware. They are not natively supported by standard design tools like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW. Users often receive these files from manufacturers and find themselves unable to view the design without purchasing expensive industrial CAD licenses.
The Solution: To edit the geometry in standard software, the file must be converted to a universal vector format like DXF or EPS. For simple visual verification or archiving, converting to PDF is the most reliable workflow.
A minority of .CEI files (approx. 15%) are configuration exports generated by SimCorp Dimension, an investment management system.
The Problem: These are backend system files used to transport settings between environments. They are often unreadable to humans and useless outside the SimCorp environment.
The Solution: If you need to audit the contents, converting or parsing them to XML, CSV, or TXT is the only way to make the data human-readable.
