A .CEI file is primarily an automated cutting machine data file. It is used by Lectra CAD/CAM software and Gerber Omega to control industrial fabric and material cutters. Alternatively, it serves as a Configuration Export file for the SimCorp Dimension investment management platform.
The .CEI format carries significant disadvantages for the average user. It is highly proprietary and locked into specific manufacturing or financial ecosystems. CAD-based .CEI files require expensive industrial software subscriptions and specialized hardware to open. They are completely unsupported by standard web browsers or consumer vector editors. Similarly, SimCorp .CEI files are strictly internal and cannot be easily repurposed or edited outside the native environment.
