Extract text from 3D models and graphs (DAG)
To convert DAG 3D models to another format, you need War Thunder or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "Game Engine Asset" file type, you need software like War Thunder or a similar tool.
The .dag extension typically serves three distinct, incompatible purposes, creating significant confusion for users.
1. Dagor Engine 3D Asset: The most common technical use is a Directed Acyclic Graph scene or model file used by the Dagor Engine, the technology powering games like War Thunder and Enlisted. These files store 3D geometry, textures, and scene hierarchy data. They are proprietary and compiled, meaning you cannot simply double-click to edit them in standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk 3ds Max. To convert these for editing, you generally need the War Thunder CDK (Content Development Kit) or the Gaijin AssetViewer to export them to intermediate formats like OBJ or FBX.
2. CQG Financial Data Graph: In the financial sector, .dag files are used by CQG software to store 'Data Analytics Graph' pages. These contain proprietary market data visualizations and technical analysis layouts. They are strictly internal to the CQG ecosystem and are best converted to PDF for sharing or CSV for data extraction using the original software.
3. Renamed/Container Documents: A significant portion of files found in corporate environments are actually ZIP-compressed containers, often mislabeled Microsoft Word documents or specialized logs from NR Electric protection relays. These files often cause friction because the operating system does not recognize the structure. A simple workaround for these is often inspecting the file header or attempting to open them with 7-Zip or renaming the extension to DOCX or ZIP to recover the contents.
