About DG files
The .dg file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple unrelated purposes. Primarily, it functions as a compressed project data file for Digital Project by Gehry Technologies or as a data repository for DataGraph. Secondarily, the enterprise engineering sector utilizes .dg for legacy CATIA V4 2D drawing files developed by Dassault Systèmes. In developer and industrial environments, it operates as a plain-text JSON dependency graph for Microsoft .NET / NuGet, or as an XML diagnostic report for FANUC robot controllers.
Opening a .dg file is difficult because the extension gives no immediate clue about its internal structure. A .dg file might be a GZIP archive, a binary CAD drawing, or a text-based JSON configuration. This fragmentation limits sharing and creates software lock-in. Recipients without expensive engineering platforms like CATIA or specific macOS apps like DataGraph cannot read the binary variants.
To ensure your data remains accessible, you must convert the file to an industry standard. For legacy CAD drawings, convert to STEP, IGES, or PDF for universal viewing. For data plots, export to CSV or SVG. For developer graphs or robot diagnostics, converting the internal JSON or XML to a standard TXT format makes the data readable on any device.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DG file to G, MG, DAG, CG or LB, you can use DataGraph or similar software from the "Project Data and CAD Drawings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to DG, try DataGraph or another comparable tool in the "Project Data and CAD Drawings" category.
The DG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DG converter.
