About MAK files

A .mak file is a chameleon format that most commonly serves as a Makefile, a text-based script used by developers to compile code with tools like GNU Make or older versions of Visual Studio. However, in consumer environments, this extension is frequently used by Logitech Profiler software to store gaming controller macros, or by Marketplace Magic as a SQLite database container.

The primary friction for users is the ambiguity: standard text editors can open Makefiles, but they will display gibberish if the file is actually a binary Logitech macro (sometimes internally ZIP-compressed) or a SQL database. Users often struggle to view these files without installing legacy compilation environments or outdated driver software. Furthermore, Makefiles rely on strict tab-indentation syntax, making them fragile to edit in standard word processors like Word.

For archiving or documentation, the best workflow is converting text-based .mak files to PDF or TXT to preserve the build instructions in a universal format. If you possess a Marketplace Magic file, converting the internal SQL data to CSV or XLSX makes the account data accessible in spreadsheets. For Logitech files, conversion is difficult due to proprietary encoding, though some may be inspectable if treated as archives.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MAK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DAG, BDR, BWD and KMS files.
